5 Reasons Being Debt Free Rules

Post on Aug 13th 2008

Here at the Learning Center, we talk a lot about the different forms of debt relief, like debt consolidation, debt management, bankruptcy, credit counseling, etc. These are important topics, and after all you wouldnt be reading this stuff if you didnt need help with your credit card debt. However, it can be tiresome to focus repeatedly on either the drudgery of struggling with credit card debt or the difficulty associated with getting rid of that debt.

So, today I decided to speculate on the good things that come with being debt free. Enjoy thinking about the debt free life that is in your future, and please let me know if theres anything youd like to add to the list.

1. No calls from creditors. I love this one, because it means not being anxious every time the phone rings, not avoiding out-of-town calls and not carrying around the anger of having someone tell you they will sue you if you dont pay up.

2. Extra money in your pocket. Think about all that money you put toward your credit card bills every month. Now think about putting that into your savings account. Then, think about the cool stuff you can buy with the money you save.

3. Paying with cash. Debt begets debt and, in my experience, the times Ive owed a lot on my credit cards, Ive always been more willing to use my credit cards. Its kind of a strange paradox, but thats how its been for me, so it is a liberating experience to be debt free and to use cash to buy things.

4. Not being afraid to apply for a loan. One of the worst parts of being deep in bad debt is the limits it puts on your life. Being debt free gives you the ability to move forward in your life, either by getting a home, a new car or even a new job.

5. Being debt free helps you change your life. This may be redundant, but by becoming debt free, either on your own or with the help of a debt relief program, you can make a truly positive change for yourself. Being debt free means taking back control from the corporations who lend you the money and entice you to spend it. It means having control of your financial life and not living in bondage to your credit cards.
