Evolution of Dynamic Digital Signage

Post on Jun 10th 2008

Dynamic digital signage has evolved significantly since its inception and it is helpful to understand how this has happened. Basically, digital signage consists of visual content being delivered by a network of displays that is controlled and managed from a central location. Almost every private and public place you visit will be using digital signage in one way or another very soon and many already do. For example, retail stores hotels, restaurants, malls, theme parks, airports, and other similar locations have started using digital signage software to manage their narrowcasting or broadcasting of specific visual content by a network of displays. The point of the digital signage is to market ones products, directions and more to consumers and the rest of the commercial world. This technology has exploded and only continues to become more popular each and every day.

This technology is relatively new and those who are utilizing it came into the business with some form of experience to help make digital signage work for them. Of course, when you are looking for someone to install your digital signage beware of what you are buying. Since the technology hasnt been around that long there are still some kinks to be worked out. For example, some companies that install digital signage will only take on large projects and if yours is small you may not be able to find an experienced company to help you out. You will also see that the companies offering you quotes may typically be PC networking, exhibit design, commercial A/V, and the like as their overall business. And, while these professionals have the necessary skills to install your digital signage you will want to know they have experience installing and maintaining such a system. It may take some time but you can find a company experienced in digital signage that will be willing to take on your project.

Remember as well that installing digital signage can be costly and you will want to choose a company that has enough credit to keep the installation moving and the project on schedule. When a certain amount of work is done by the installer the agreed upon amount and do so on time. This will keep the project moving and the installation will be completed faster.

These are just some of the things you need to know about digital signage and how the technology has developed. Keep in mind that the technology will change and become even better in the future.
