How to use Email Marketing in Your Online Business Part II

Assuming that you have a mailing list and an autoresponder then you are ready to compose your email. You can use a mass emailing to send the send the same message to everybody on the list. Very rarely will you send emails to individuals, unless it is for a specific reason such as a complaint or specific request for information that cannot be met by an auto response.

The main problem that any email has is to get opened. In fact, it takes some work just to get your email noticed, let alone opened. Yours might be one in four or five pages, each of 20 25 emails, that the recipient will quickly scan down. I dont know about you, but I tend to check the subject lines first, then scan each page again with a quick check of senders. If nothing catches my eye, I delete the lot, and then go to the next page.

You must have a catchy subject line, but one that compels the reader to open it. There are sites on the internet that give advice on writing subject lines, so check them out. Once you have read them, learned how to write a compelling subject line, and your email is opened, you now have the problem of getting it read. Your email must have a great title right at the top, or compelling content that is immediately brought to the readers attention. Otherwise, it will be deleted. Why do email services provide a delete button on the email page? Its too convenient!

If we assume that your email is read, then the message it gives must be good. It must convey what you want to say and get the reaction that you want. If this is a click then make it obvious what the reader is expected to do. Make the call to action very clear. No email campaign will work unless you tell the recipient what they must do.
