Why Successful People Hire a Coach
Post on May 28th 2008
What do Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and a CEO of a Fortune 500 company have in common?
These are all exceptional people, professionals, and the best in their respective fields. Do they need a personal coach? Maybe, maybe not. Do they each have a personal coach? Most likely! Top performers recognize that an effective coach will lift them to a greater level of advancement faster and easier than they could do on their own.
The pressure to perform in a high profile career can be truly overwhelming. Without focus and clarity of purpose, one could easily become derailed by the many and varied demands being made on one's time. It takes an immense amount of self discipline and dedication to stay on track and few successful people can, or do, do it all alone. Successful people continue to be successful by filtering out the noise and keeping their vision first and foremost, clearly laid out in front of them by utilizing a coach to help them stay on track towards realizing their vision.
Coaching is not for the faint of heart and it can be hard work, but the synergy of the coaching relationship is what causes better results, more easily. What professional athlete hasn't used a coach to win? Tiger Woods is likely the best golfer this planet has ever seen and yet he understands the value of working directly with someone to point out things he can't see, someone to keep encouraging and challenging him on to achieve his greatest potential.
Whether business, sports or personal life coaching, an effective coach helps the client form a game plan that really comes to life. Defining values, vision and time-lining goals that matter, while helping the client implement a support structure and creating action strategies for their achievement.
Many leaders, managers and top executives keep on top of their game by enlisting coaching services.
Business Wire Jan. 4/01 reported "a study of 100 executives that received coaching aged 40 to 49 years earned in excess of $200,000 per year. Among the results of the study: The coaching programs delivered an average return on investment of 5.7 times the initial investment-or a return of more than $100,000 ---according to executives who estimated the monetary value of the results achieved through coaching.
The benefits to companies that provided coaching to their executives were improvements in Productivity, Quality, Organizational strength, Customer service, Reduction of customer complaints, Retaining executives, Cost reductions and Bottom line profitability, while the benefits to the executives that received the coaching were improved Working relationships with direct reports and immediate supervisors, Teamwork, Working relationships with peers, Job satisfaction, Conflict reduction, Organizational commitment and Working relationships with clients."
Coaching can help you and/or your company to solve problems, reach goals, design a plan of action and make decisions. An effective coach brings out your personal best while keeping you focused on your needs, values and vision.
Coaching is definitely not for everyone, but for those of you motivated to succeed and willing to do the work to define, refine, and take the necessary action steps towards realization of your vision, your Coach can be your greatest ally to achieving and continuing your success!
