Wireless Home Theater Speakers
Post on Jun 28th 2008
Installing a home theater system is synonymous with navigating a massive tangled mess of wires. This is the part of the installation which is zero fun. Playing with settings is a blast, but running those wires is a pain.
Now there is a newer member to the home theater family which cuts down on some of this. Wireless home theater speakers. Before I continue I need to let you know that there are no all wireless systems currently available. They are only meant for the rear speakers.
These are not actually meant to replace all of those wires. However, they are meant to replace the wires that run from the back of the receiver to the back speakers of your system. This in turn not only removes the need to run 2 more wires, but also eliminates the drilling of holes and a lovely trip to the attic.
Having them wireless gives them more of a plug and play ability. At least for the back speakers. The technology is not exactly new, but it is certainly getting better. The first models of wireless home theater speakers got less than rave reviews. However, the most recent models sound perfectly clear.
Not only is the technology getting better, but they are getting more affordable too. Thus you should expect to see more and more in homes in the coming years.

The flexibility that is offered with these systems are well worth the extra few bucks you will pay for the speakers themselves.
In addition many of the "home theater in a box" systems now include the wireless speakers for the rear ones. This not only makes it more affordable, but easier when it is time to get your gear working. No guessing games or converters makes for a good and easy installation.
