Writing Your First E-Book - Three Simple Steps

Writing a short, informative e-book on a subject that you know something about is a fairly simple process. If you begin by writing on a familiar topic it will be just that much easier. What follows are three simple steps that you can use to write your first e-book. After you have completed your first book, you will be on track to writing several more in the days and weeks to come.

First, you must pick a topic for you new e-book. It helps if it is a topic that you know something about because this will give you the confidence to get started. When choosing a topic be sure to properly narrow the focus of your e-book.

Most people have a tendency to choose too general of a topic and the project quickly spirals out of control. As the project grows, the chances that you will never complete the book grows. So if you are interested in model railroading, do not set out to write the Complete Model Railroading Guide. Instead, focus on a small piece of the model railroading subject. For example, write about a unique way of building natural looking landscapes that you have developed or discuss the differences between traditional railroad controls and the newer DDC controls.

By narrowing your subject, you are able to compose a short informative e-book that will appeal to people who are looking for a specific solution to a specific problem. These are the people who are willing to spend their hard earned money to acquire your knowledge.

Next, you need to spend some time brainstorming your topic. Write down anything that comes to mind. You can even perform a little Internet research to stimulate your thinking.

The goal of this exercise is to come up with several sub-topics that you could write a page of information about. If this is a topic that you already know about, this part will be easy. After you have written down several topics, try to arrange them in some logical order. This will become your table of contents.

Finally, start writing. It is not necessary to start with the first point. Simply pick one that interests you today and start writing everything you know about it. You will be surprised at how fast you can fill a page, especially if it is a topic in which you have some interest. When you have finished writing on all of the topics it is time to take a break and celebrate. You have just finished your first e-book.
